So for this week I decided it would be a good idea to do a story planning post so I could get a few thoughts together. I really want to continue the epic of the preacher. I now have a pretty good backstory and a solid intermediate story but now I need to begin creating stories of his travels. Maybe he should make his way out toward California. I think that could work but the hardest part now is find a story from the Mahabharata to use as a base story to manipulate. This is partly also why I decided to do a story planning post too, so this way I will be able to have all the stories from the Mahabharata at my disposal. I do not think that this next story should be one with a battle in it. I think instead it should be about the preachers tough travels across the desert to the California border. Or maybe across the Rocky Mountain range. Now what story could be one that would work with this?
For this first section of the Mahabharata I can think of one story where the queen leaves into the woods with her last living child and dwells there for some time. I do not think that this would be good to use because the preacher would have no child with him unless someone in the town of Little Dehli needs him to take the kid across the desert to save him from a certain death from an angry father or something. I could make that work but it is kind of a stretch. The next story I could use is when one of the princess does the magical chants and has the Gods give her children. The preacher could be traveling across the desert and when all hope seems to be lost he could chant to the God above and he could appear to him and give him something to help him along the way. I think that story would work better for what I am trying to do. Maybe there will be an even better story next week in the second half of the Mahabharata that I could use though as well!
I am so glad you want to carry on with the preacher in the West, Kasey! And you could use this as a chance to do some research not just about the Indian stories, but about the Western context. You will find lots of materials online if you search on wagon trains, etc., like this page: Colorado Wagon Trains. I'm looking forward to more of the preacher with the golden gun!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a Story planning assignment yet so I thought I would look at yours to get an idea for my work. I normally just don't want to do research because I like jumping into things but I like how you put effort into looking at the landscape of your possible story. This is a good way that shows how your mind is processing information as you learn for your next story.
