Typing Test Tech Tip

This week I decided to do a tech tip on typing speed. I can remember back in grade school how we used to have to do typing test all the time each week to see how much we were improving our typing skills. For this test I did a trying test just like back then to see how fast I could type as well as the accuracy. I am happy with the speed of my tying but I wish I was a little more accurate with it as well. Sometimes I hit a slump where I keep having to backspace that is kind of frustrating. I think these test are a little misleading though too because you are just typing from a paragraph already written. This is totally different than trying to figure out what to write and typing it at the same time.

Google Define Tech Tip

Image
For this weeks tech tip I decided to use the google define feature. I do not use this a lot but it always seems to come up when  I was to learn some more in depth information. It is handy to have though when you need to search for a word real fast nd just type in what you know about the word and then it brings up the one you are looking for. For my word to look up I chose "hyperpolarization" because I have been studying action potentials and the effect drugs have on them. So if anyone was wondering when you go out for your Thursday night drink and take in some of that alchy it works to cause GABA receptors in your brain not to work and thus your cells have an influx of chloride ions. This causes, you guessed it, hyperpolarization and because of this your cells can't talk to each other or in other words cant send an action potential. This causes the downstream effects that are seen and felt from consuming alcohol.

Tech Tip: Word Counter

This week's Tech Tip I decided to do something I should have a long time ago, I downloaded the Google Chrome Word Counter. This tool makes things in this class, and other classes, so much easier. In the past I would either pull up Word to track my word count or use an online source. Both of these make you copy and paste what you are counting. I have sometimes even accidently deleted the material that I was trying to copy and paste over which is devastating! With this all you have to do is highlight and click and it tells you what you want to know. Great! For me, this will come in handy because sometimes I struggle to meet the word limit. Well, that is until story writing time and  I may flirt with the max word limit.

A little Throwback Thanks to a Tech Tip

Tech Tip: Canvas Mobile App

This Week I decided to go ahead and download the mobile app on my phone. I am hoping this will help me with my schedule and due dates. I did have to delete some things off my phone to free up space on my old iPhone but other than that it was a breeze to download and a breeze to use.
