Week 12 Story: Preacher and the Bronc

Image
After the whole escapade with Martha much explaining had to be done in the town. After all was said and because the Preacher was known as a just and good man he was pardoned for his act. Things began to go back to normal in the town. Infact things were almost too normal for the Preacher. After living such an exciting life for a short amount of time he began to miss it. Don't get me wrong, he loved his new family and the life he had, but some part of him missed the adventure. He knew God would come to him when he had a new task for him however. So the Preacher would go out with his son and adventure throughout the town. This went on for a few years and the boy was now a mischievous 8 year old. He would always go about and try to find trouble. One day he went down to the town stables and watched as a cattle rustler brought in a new horse to the corral. The horse was large in every way. His muscles jolted from just body and he seemed to tower over all the other horses. The man bringin...

Week 11 Story Planning: How Can I Continue the Saga

Image
Sooooo, this week I have found myself in quite a predicament. I have written another story that will fit well with my preacher epic that I have been writing and so I am happy with that. The problem that I have now it that I feel myself running out of creative thoughts and stories that I think I could implement into the portfolio (or storybook at this point, I don't know). I read some Jataka tales this week and I did really enjoy them but I am not totally sure how to morph something like that into a more real world and serious storyline. Maybe I shouldn't thought. Perhaps instead I could write like a little interlude to break up the story. I could use one of the Jataka tales and just change the characters to fit my storyline so far and make it a fun and playful intermission story that will give the reader something fun to read. It will most likely not have anything to do with the overall storyline of the The Confused Ox epic but could be just a fun side story to write. I do...

Week 10 Story:The Preacher has a Son

Image
Years had past since the last time we saw the preacher. He had decided to stay with widowed woman that he met in the first story. They began to live together and soon after had a son. The preacher began to teach the word of God again but also still took leave from time to time to deal with bandits and the like in nearby areas. He also saved his now home time a couple times since his stay began. As the child that they had began to grow, he became very strong for his age and was as healthy as an ox. This was not what was usual for this time and in this town. In recent years the town had been plagued with the deaths of many of the newly born infants.  This terrible situation was felt in many of the families. One that had been plagued by this infant death syndrome more than any others was Martha DeVill. Martha, ever since she was a child, always loved little children. When she was small she loved to play with dolls and spent most of her time acting like they were hers. She would f...

Week 7 Story: The Golden Gun Origin Stories

Image
There once was a legend of a preacher in the West that only was known by the name of R. Some say it stood for reverend, others said it they called him that because when someone challenged him to a shootout, when they yelled “Draw!” no one had ever made it past the letter r before they found a bullet between their eyes. The preacher is most notably known for his stand off with the infamous Joel which you can read in my story here. But, although he is well known for his good doings around the West and cleaning up the towns, little is known about the origins of this preacher. Well, that is, until now.                 It was 1856, right before the boom of the “Old West” as we know it now. A tiny town in upstate Montana was home to a young man that was fascinated by all things cowboy. He quickly learned how to rope and ride and decided that he should try his luck on a cattle drive that was headed South to deli...

Week 6 Story: The Meek Prince

Image
A long time ago in the kingdom of Lanka there lived two twin princes that were coming of the age to look for a wife and be wed. The two boy’s names were Shirma and Brahima. Although they were twins, the two young men were quite different from one another in both looks and attitude. Shirma was the first born of the two and was much larger and mightier than his brother Brahima. Shirma had long flowing hair and skin that was as fair as a lotus petal. He was also much more out going that Brahima. In today’s lingo, one might say he had a certain “bad-boy” swagger to him. Not that he was looking for trouble or was trouble but instead like he knew he was better than anyone else and let everyone know he knew. Brahima on the other hand was quite the opposite. He was meek, and mind toned. Now, each knew that their time for marriage was coming upon them and both knew that there was only one princess in all of India that would be suitable for them as a wife. That was the fair Shala from Sikki...

Week 4 Story: The Preacher in the Wild West

Image
Back when the west was still wild and the buffalo still roamed free, there was a town in Montana that had become the place to come to. People from the east heard of their terrific shops, meat markets, hotels, and saloons. What was even better was all the farmland that was available just outside of the town. The lands were flat and wide and had many streams flowing. This made this are great for raising crops. For many years people flocked to this town. Everyone worked together to help one another and this created a town that did not only thrive economically but also just felt safe. That was, until one day someone showed up to town. One day in the middle of July the infamous bandit Joel rode into town. Some of the citizens knew his face immediately and packed up their things and fled. Others that weren't so lucky welcomed him as a new guest. Joel had been known for going town to town in the west, pillaging and taking everything from thriving towns. It was early in the days of the w...

Week 3 Story: The Magic Shoes

Image
It was a Friday night and all of Lakewood Highschool was gearing up for the homecoming basketball match up against their hated rivals Mulberry High. Lakewood had high hopes for a state championship this year with Manny Rodriguez leading the way. These aspirations from the preseason, however, had not quite lived up to their hype. Manny had been in a shooting slump and seemed to average almost double-digit turnovers a game. This was a basketball school though and none of the students or faculty was going to give up on this team. Manny on the other hand was having a tough time wondering what was going on with his abilities. He kind of moped around school that day not really getting into the homecoming spirt. Instead, at lunch time Manny went downtown to walk around by himself. He had hoped that maybe it would get his mind right and clear his head for the game that evening. While he was walking by a shop he happened to look through the window and see a pair of vintage Larry Bird shoes. T...

Week 2 Story: Hawk Swoops Into His Own Trap

Image
There was once a place around the equator of earth that was beautiful in every aspect of the word. Under the shade of a mighty mountain laid a valley that possessed beautiful crystal blue pools and lush green vegetation all around. The temperature was always a perfect 70 degrees with light breezes. This was a perfect place for a couple rabbits to take settlement and raise a family. The rabbits began to increase in numbers as the years went by and established a wonderful quaint community. Now, many years past and something about their environment seemed to become different. The world, it seemed, had began to increase in temperature. This became ever more evident as the beautiful pools became sweltering hot tubs or were dried up all together. The vegetation also began to wither and die due to the heat as well. "What shall we do", cried the Rabbits.     Watching all this take place was a mighty Hawk perched high in the mountain. He could see what Hawk carrying a...
