Week 11 Reading Notes: Part B

For the second part of this weeks reading I went ahead and continued reading the Jataka's tales. I have come to really enjoy them and love the messages that they give through the story. I was even beginning to think to myself that if or when I ever have children of my own, I would like to read them some of these stories. In this way they get to hear a great and fun story but maybe also they will pick up on some of the lessons that they are trying to teach the reader. I have to admit for this second
A Beautiful Cover for Jataka's Tales That I Hope to Buy
section of the Jataka's I was not reading like a writer like I had been in the past. Instead, I really wanted to soak in all the information and really dive into the story with having to judgement or ideas to change the originals in the back of my midn. I just wanted to read the story for its pure self. Like I said, I have come to love these stories and for that reason wanted to get the full effect of what they have to offer the reader. My favorite story of this part B section was "The Ox who Never Envied the Pig". I also really enjoyed the crane and the crab and had written a story about this tale earlier in the semester! Week 6 Story: The Meek Prince

A long time ago in the kingdom of Lanka there lived two twin princes that were coming of the age to look for a wife and be wed. The two boy’s names were Shirma and Brahima. Although they were twins, the two young men were quite different from one another in both looks and attitude. Shirma was the first born of the two and was much larger and mightier than his brother Brahima. Shirma had long flowing hair and skin that was as fair as a lotus petal. He was also much more out going that Brahima. In today’s lingo, one might say he had a certain “bad-boy” swagger to him. Not that he was looking for trouble or was trouble but instead like he knew he was better than anyone else and let everyone know he knew. Brahima on the other hand was quite the opposite. He was meek, and mind toned. Now, each knew that their time for marriage was coming upon them and both knew that there was only one princess in all of India that would be suitable for them as a wife.
